Online Teen Therapy & Parent Support

For Relationship Challenges Across Texas

When your teen is struggling, it can be hard to know how to reach them.

Maybe your teen seems more withdrawn, gets frustrated easily, or reacts to everyday situations in ways you don’t understand. Conversations that once felt easy may turn into arguments, and your attempts to help may be met with silence, defensiveness, or “I’m fine.”

You may find yourself walking on eggshells, worrying about saying the wrong thing, or wondering how to support your teen without pushing them further away. And your teen may be struggling, too—feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed by emotions, or unsure how to explain what they’re experiencing.

At Ryan Psychotherapy Group, we help teens understand their emotions, navigate relationships, and develop healthier ways to communicate. We also support parents in understanding their teen’s needs and responding in ways that strengthen connection rather than increase conflict. Our goal is to help your family move toward greater understanding, trust, and connection.

You’ve probably tried hard to help your teen—and it may feel like nothing is working.

You want your teen to feel supported, make good decisions, and know they can come to you when life gets difficult. You may have tried to give advice, set limits, start conversations, or give them space. But sometimes, the harder you try to help, the more distant or frustrated your teen seems to become.

You may have:

  • Tried to get them to open up. You ask how their day went or what’s bothering them, but you get one-word answers, “I don’t know,” or “Leave me alone.”

  • The same arguments repeatedly. Conversations about school, responsibilities, friends, or expectations quickly turn into conflict, leaving everyone frustrated and unheard.

  • Worried about their emotions. Your teen may seem anxious, irritable, overwhelmed, or unusually hard on themselves, and you’re unsure how to help them manage what they’re feeling.

  • Struggled to balance support and independence. You want to give your teen room to grow while still providing guidance, boundaries, and protection when they need it.

  • Wondered whether you’re making things worse. You may replay conversations, question your parenting, or worry that your efforts to help are creating more distance between you.

These struggles don’t mean you’ve failed as a parent, and they don’t mean your teen is unwilling to work through their challenges. Adolescence brings significant emotional, social, and relational changes.

Teens are learning who they are, how to manage strong feelings, and how to navigate relationships while becoming more independent.

Sometimes, what looks like defiance or withdrawal is a sign that a teen doesn’t yet have the words or skills to communicate what’s happening inside.

Understanding what’s beneath the behavior can open the door to meaningful change.

Teen therapy and parent support help your teen build emotional and relationship skills so your family can:

At Ryan Psychotherapy Group, we believe that behavior makes more sense when we understand the emotions and relationship needs beneath it. Our approach draws on the Gold-Standard Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment-based models, and relationship-focused principles to help teens understand their emotional experiences and develop healthier ways of connecting with others.

We also recognize that parents are an important part of a teen’s support system. Parent support sessions, which may take place monthly or bi-monthly, provide an opportunity to explore family dynamics, understand your teen’s needs, and develop practical ways to support progress at home.

The goal isn’t to make your teen talk about everything or to eliminate every disagreement. It’s to help your teen feel better equipped to handle life’s challenges and help your family create a relationship where difficult conversations become more manageable.
